Finally Good Weather

Posted by Tammy Chapman on

About ready to put these on for the summer!  My garden boots!  They are not this shiny now, but I sure so love them.  They are comfy, waterproof and high enough to keep ticks and bugs off of me.  I am glad I didn't plant my garden before Memorial Day.  That is a "no-no" when this far north.  Had 4 freezing nights in a row last week.  A friend of ours lost 38 tomato plants.  I dragged mine in every night and back out for sunshine during the day.  I was able to leave them out last night as it only got to 43.  I have so much to do this week (we have littles coming next week) but hoping to get the garden fertilized and maybe wait to plant when the kids get here.  We will see how it goes...

The hummers are doing great.  My feeders didn't freeze, but I filled them with a 3/1 ratio instead of 4/1 so they had the extra sugar for energy.  The feeder on the window never froze and I wrapped a towel around the feeder in the tree overnight.  It is suppose to be close to 90 by the end of the week.  As long as it cools off at night that is ok.  Tim ordered a new HVAC system that should be here probably next week.  Won't have it installed while company is here, but it cools off at night and I have my fans!  Only 61 in the house this morning.  A light jacket and I am good.  We keep the house open at night to cool off, then close it up in the morning to stay cool during the day.  I was even able to make a roast in the oven yesterday.  Tim has been too busy with the bees to grill.  He did brats on Saturday, but only because the rain shut him down on bees.  We had 2 great thunderstorms come through on Saturday and he was able to grill in between storms.  Yea!

The bees are doing well, but we really need more moisture.  Hardly have any wildflowers yet!  The dandelions have already gone to seed (the first of them anyway).  The bees are finding goodies because they are building out!  Tim is out with another bee keeper friend right now showing him some of his hives.  Tim is always willing to share his trial & errors!  Helps others from making his same mistakes!

Have a great week/weekend all!  Talk soon!
