Feeding "The Girls"

Posted by Tammy Chapman on

It was 66' here yesterday!  BEE autiful Day!  It is going to be in the 60's until at least Sunday.  The "Girls" are out and busy!  The problem now is that there is no nectar left.  This is when you have to supplement them.  Tim went out and "fed" them this morning.  Buckets with sugar water in them to keep them fed during this time and so that they won't break into their winter stores they have in the hives.  Tim was worried about winter being so early.  He was afraid they wouldn't have enough stores of honey in the hives (we leave 80-100lbs for them) for such a long winter.  Now they can be out in the sun and have lunch too!  They will use this sugar water as energy and be able to keep their honey stores for the winter.  We only supplement them like this when needed!  In early spring they get a bit of sugar water and pollen patties to get them ready for harvesting.  We don't do it for long, just until they are ready for spring and the flowers are blooming.  We do not feed while the nectar "flow" is on!  All the honey they put up is from natural feeding.  But, we all need a sweet snack now and then to keep us going! Busy bees need lots of energy.

It was a busy day yesterday.  I hope you all got out and voted!  I worked the polls yesterday and I am very proud of those I worked with and those who used their rights and voted!  Big turnout for a small community.  I am not commenting on the election today or going forward.  We all have our rights to our opinions, and I respect you all as I hope you respect me.  God Bless America moving forward.

A quandary today for dinner.  I have a pound of venison hamburger out and have no idea what to make!  Last week I made "Hamburger Steaks" with mashed reds and mushroom gravy.  Stupid as it sounds...that is what I want again tonight!  Guess I will check with hubby and see what he thinks.  It is going to be really nice out...maybe he could grill!  Just checked in with Tim on a new idea for dinner.  I have decided on doing my "Spaghetti Squash" dinner.  Sauce is meat, mushrooms and I make my own Garlic Alfredo sauce from Cauliflower and we put it over roasted Spaghetti Squash!  YUM! YUM! YUM!

Have a great Wednesday all!
