With the introduction to Essential oils, I started my own research. With all of my allergy issues, I wanted to make sure that I was using the best for me. Only 1 oil guaranteed that I would have no allergic reaction. They remove all the histamines during distillation so I would have no allergic reaction. I took the bait! I ordered several oils and tried them from a friend of mine who sold DoTerra. I am not afraid to mention DoTerra Oils! I can only speak from my own experience...but they are the best. I was actually scared to try them. SO GLAD I DID! They have been a total game-changer for me. The Frankincense Oil healed my skin & many of the scars. I still use it for rash breakouts. The Lavender has been soothing to my skin and is calming and helps me relax, which helps sleep. Peppermint I used in much of my homemade hair products. I was making most of my own lotions, soaps, deodorants, etc because of the allergies. Something I found and still use commercially is my Aveeno Bath Colloidal Oatmeal. I use the packets and soak in it! Still! Calms my skin and is one of the commercial items that does not break me out. Let me add to that list Ivory Soap. It is the only commercial soap I have found that I can use and not break out. DoTerra shampoo and deodorant worked for me for awhile, but as much as I love it, I did start breaking out. My body gets used to something and just rejects it. I have not had this problem with the Essential Oils! I can even add their lemon (an acid that I am extremely allergic) to cooking for flavor and have no reaction. Again, I do not use it often, but I don't worry about it when I do.
After the success with oils, I went through a bit of a personal crisis. My son, Nick went overseas to work with the WOOF program. (Worldwide Organization of Organic Farmers). I was having terrible health problems and worried about him leaving. At this time (2015) I was taking about 8 different meds a day. We traveled to WY to see all the family before he left, then took him to Denver to fly out. Traveling is very hard for me, so this trip almost did me in. Tim was extremely worried. The meds did not seem to be helping (especially the pain meds). We decided I should detox as Tim was home from traveling for awhile and could be there for me. I did this of my own accord. It was truly 30 days of hell, of which I don't remember much. When the fog lifted and I started to feel human...I was shocked at how much better I felt. There is definitely a time and place for medication! I just needed to decide what I could and could not use. What would and would not work for me. Detoxing was my solution. If Tim hadn't been here with me 24/7 it wouldn't have worked. I don't recommend it...this was a totally personal decision! Please check with your docs before trying this! I did not, but I should have!
Didn't take long for the pain to almost debilitate me. I had been researching natural pain help and came upon Copaiba Oil. I decided to try it. It takes about 30 days to build in your system to help the pain fight. Of course, best way to take it is orally. Let me tell you the truth...it tastes AWFUL! I managed to take it a few weeks but didn't think I could stand it anymore. I tried it in my tea in the mornings. It just ruined my tea. Again, Thank God for Tim! He suggested putting honey in my tea to take away the taste. IT HELPED! So I ordered more Copaiba Oil as I really did think I was starting to see a difference. It was now 2016 and I had a new Rheumatologist. After surviving all the testing, the prognosis was the same. Lupus, MCTD (Mixed Connective Tissue Disease), Scoliosis, Skin Rashes, Weakened hips. She suggested going back on all my meds. I did not, and never went to another appointment.
Just FYI...during this time period I also experimented with other "holistic" options. I started going to a Massage Therapist who was trained for Lupus. She was also into oils, and the massages helped! I started going every month. I also tried acupuncture. The first session was amazing! I truly left there feeling like a new person. The next week was not quite as amazing. Every time you do acupuncture, they do just a little bit more. They push you each visit. The 2nd visit I was a little sore and it took a few days to feel better. The 3rd session was my last. I was literally sick by the time I got home. I was actually laid up for 3 days! So sore, so much pain. Just too much for me. I stayed with the massages, but gave up the acupuncture! My acupuncturist refused to back off, I was done.
This is my background peeps! Up until the time we moved to the farm in Northern Minnesota. The picture today is out of my living room window this morning. I hope you can see the beautiful swans on the river. Just an amazing scene this morning.
There will be more on my journey, but enough for today and a great jumping off point! You know what I say:
Stay In, Stay Safe, Stay Sane!
